Milliways Dossier: Eleanor

Threads: (x)

History

  • Sixteen-year-old called Eleanor from Rapture, 1968
  • Rapture: "an object lesson in things people were not meant to know"
  • "Best and the brightest" were to study without regulation - ended up with "cutthroat businessmen"
  • the city is under the Atlantic ocean! and under the control of Mother, who rules from a prison cell after a civil war broke out among the super-powered populace - 20k people before, but few now, and no children
  • Supplies are stolen from the surface, including young girls
  • No one is to leave - it'd be dangerous for the world outside
  • Eleanor currently lives confined to a prison cell, forcibly injected with ADAM to develop the ability to calculate for the greater good - the Ultimate Utopian
  • ADAM: mutated stem cells; the essence and memories of other people harvested by and filtered through little girls after one's death - I wish I were making that up
  • ADAM: can end up like cancer, also drives people insane with injection and/or withdrawal - Eleanor has had injections since she was six
  • girl children had regenerative experiments done on them - there is a cure, but, "Mother sees it as a blessing"
  • "suit up" the older girls and send them out to protect the younger ones - older ones can crack the glass
  • protected by her father, a man with both his voice and free will removed, down to base instincts, sealed into a special diving suit and given pheromones to bond with "daughters"
  • Dr. Tenenbaum discovered ADAM - now an ally to Eleanor - escaped and freed girls eight years ago
  • First successful "pair-bond" experiment - said with happiness

Impressions

  • Threat Level: LOW - Has regenerative capabilities and localized telepathy, but I doubt she'd use her abilities and knowledge against me. She does know an awful lot about me, though!
  • "I'm Eleanor who ends and begins things"
  • "One must be careful with fiction" - Mother: an uncontrollable weapon
  • "I think everyone's got things that are kept from them. It's just sometimes we don't know that we don't know them. Or we don't know that there's anything there to be known at all."
  • likes the library - finds it comforting
  • her mother is terrifying - a psychiatrist, go figure
  • "the only way we can reach utopia is to deny ourselves as the self is just a barrier"
  • Plan: escape her prison cell, resurrect and decondition her father, find Mr. Sinclair, save the girls, key Mr. Sinclair to his lifeboat, and escape to the surface... without her mother finding out
  • Can control the younger girls - see through their eyes; older girls have gone feral
  • "Do you know who you are yet?" - yes, of course!
  • "You make things permanent. Moments happen and are lost, if they're not recorded. And writers get to decide the way they're going to write--it's a lot of power" - how very eloquent of her...
  • "I can do anything" - power of ADAM with all of the residual experiences - medicine, art, engineering

Weaknesses

  • Lack of ADAM means potential instability
  • Over-regeneration - e.g. if she breaks a limb oddly and doesn't have time to set it before she heals

Scabs

  • None for now; this is fairly comprehensive, though I certainly wouldn't mind seeing her again

Opportunities

  • Think of all of the knowledge she possesses! All of the thousands of memories! It's mind-boggling
