Because She Would Ask Me Why I Love Her, Part I
[ Part I | Part II | Part III | Part IV | Part V ]
Met someone tiny
She's fourteen and doesn't know if she'll go to school and has an injury on her hand. She has this lying tell where she cleans her glasses, especially on lies by omission. Her frames are bright red. She might be poor, too. We went to the greenhouse to see the bonsai--miniature trees--and she refused the carpet, haha!
Overall, she was a bit down in the dumps, I think, but once she saw the bonsai everything changed... Wow, I didn't even get her name. Why are all the cute girls from Japan?
---
She fell off the carpet climbing down and I caught her! Haha! It's a long story, okay--here we go:
Miss Kuriyama introduced herself to me today. She prefers honorifics like -san or Miss. We ate pizza and purple cows, which she smiled about! I get the impression that she's always hungry for some reason. She declared Milliways not unpleasant, which is good. Then she showed me her bonsai using her smartphone and actually smiled at me! It was beautiful.
She asked me what I do for fun and I answered, and then she replied that she blogs--which is writing on the internet for everyone to see. She's from February, 2013. I told her when and where I'm from, too--it's too easy to tell her things. She took a picture of my carpet and of me--the first one I've ever had--and it's in color! Wow!
She smiled about flying on the carpet, too. :) We flew to the greenhouse again, and while she doesn't have a favorite flower, she mentioned some that go see-through in the rain. I should find those!
And that's when she fell and I wrapped an arm around her shoulders and even held her hand! Oh, my gosh, I must have blushed so hard my glasses may have fogged. But I'm happy it happened. Well, not that she tripped, but that I caught her. Yes.
---
Miss Kuriyama is homeless. Oh. She's moving into Milliways and relying on the Fund for Minors. I'm glad she has it to rely on.
I made her cry.
---
Before I sprained my ankle at the roller disco, I saw Miss Kuriyama there! We fought, because I presumed to know her and told her she was kind and interesting when I couldn't know for sure. Oh, I just know she thinks I'm unpleasant now!
---
I tried to find the skeleton flowers in the greenhouse in the middle of the night after my release from the infirmary. But I couldn't find them--because they bloom in the spring! I gave up and ordered a pot of them from the bar.
They're very pretty. I hope they work as an apology.
---
Miss Kuriyama apologized to me! What? She admitted that she'd been avoiding my questions and said it was unfair to call me unpleasant for not knowing her when she hasn't been telling me much. Oh! All right.
Her reaction to my sylladex was hilarious. And then I managed to dump water on her hand. Good job, Autor. I did make a promise to always be kind to her, though.
I've been researching green teas since I met her, and so we had Everyday Cassoulet--a French bean stew--and flowering Ganlu tea. Apparently it is custom for people to pour tea for each other, and for the elder to be served first. Whoops!
And then she told me she killed someone.
Oh. Huh. Um. She has just left her adoptive family because she killed their daughter--but she didn't want to! Their families are part of the Spirit World Warriors that hunt monsters. The Hollow Shadow--a youmu, a monster--possessed her friend, and Miss Kuriyama had to destroy her.
In addition, the injury on her hand is a permanent wound which she can draw her blood out as a weapon. She was born with it, and she is the last of her family. I told her in turn about Spinning. Should I have? I wanted to, at the time, and I don't regret it, but...
I feel so badly for her. What an awful situation.
---
I am such an idiot! I managed to get myself completely plastered and reveal my, um, crush to Rae, Yugo, Jay, and Bonnie... And then I made out with Jay, of course. Shiva wept.
And then, naturally, because life's not difficult enough, Miss Kuriyama stopped by. Rae and her got to introduce themselves, which is good, but other than that I put my foot in my mouth so many times, I can still taste my toes. I called her a strawberry and Rosachen and I'm sure if she hadn't told me she doesn't approve of nicknames I would have given her many more terms of endearment.
I apologized again, too. Sigh. But something... interesting was revealed. Miss Kuryiama doesn't believe she deserves fondness or affection. I'm not sure what to do with that. She said she can't stop us from lavishing those things on her, but I don't want to force affection! She also said she doesn't know how to be a friend yet.
We ate muffins and drank tea, provided by the wonderful Rae, who was very kind about my making a fool of myself. I then made a graph, which happened to be cat-shaped and accurate.
